I got a bunch of great stuff from Paxton Gate today! From the top: Bobcat foot bones, Coyote teeth, and Coyote claws. Some of these I’m keeping, and some of them are for Andy :)

(30 Day Challenge) Day 16: Your Views on Mainstream Music:

I like a lot of what I (at least) consider mainstream music. However, I severely dislike a lot of it too. Some of it is fun, beautiful, clever, or even silly. On the other hand, some of it is trite, vulgar, and completely lacking artistic challenge or insight. Some modern artists (if you could call them artists) are indicative of the do-whatever-it-takes as long as it doesn’t involve talent or character to get famous attitude. Singing about “yeah it’s me, I’m me, don’t tell me not to be me! I don’t listen to no one I’m the best, I fuck all the bitches I have all the money everyone is just jealous!” bullshit.

But yeah, I love Lana. She’s a little goofy sometimes but who isn’t. She’s kind of a good microcosm of the lures and dangers of pop culture.

(30 Day Challenge) Day 15: Your Favorite Tumblrs
1. vampyrumspectrum: My friend Andy! A naturalist from the UK who loves to post mostly about insects and wolves. He also posts a lot of original photos from Exmoor Park and interesting historical places he’s visited.
2. postscriptforfinales: A lovely Tumblr with a little bit of everything I love. Nature, art, fashion, a lot of photosets, and just the right amount of fandoms.
3. racheldev0n: My beautiful niece!
4. shanajew: A really pretty lady from my neck of the woods. Bones, nature, art, and a little bit of humor.
5. quim3ra: A great mix of art, history, architecture, and some fashion. A very informative and elegant Tumblr.
6. joshverdi: Years ago, Josh and I used to ride the bus together on the way to work :) He posts a lot of tattoo and piercing subjects, nutrition and exercise,  some fashion and art, and a good mix of funny stuff.
7. ne0nrebel: Like all the other Tumblrs I love, a mix of art, fashion, and nature. But my favorite part about this blog is the fashion!
8. strangeflesh: A focus on non-western culture; art, photographs, and fashion. Also belly dance, both traditional and tribal fusion.
9. wolftea: If you haven’t heard of this lady yet, where have you been? A great self-employed artist who make jewelry and other neat items. She also posts great photos of her hikes and camping adventures.

(30 Day Challenge) Day 14: Your Earliest Memory:
I can remember being at my sister’s wedding when I was 3. I was the flower girl I wanted to throw all the flower petals at once, but I remember my mom asking me “Wouldn’t it be better if you had some left for the walk down the isle?”
I can also remember the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, I was 3 for that too! I was at daycare waiting for my mom to pick me up, and they made all of us duck under the table. I didn’t know what was happening and I was just upset that everyone was yelling and making noise.

(30 Day Challenge) Day 13: Somewhere You’d Like to Move or Visit:
I want to go to England! I want visit libraries, museums, churches, cemeteries, and historic homes. I want to take tours and do walks. I also want to visit my friend Andy. I’m not really sort of person who like to take ‘relaxing’ vacations where you just lie on a beach or spend all day in a spa. I want to go somewhere where I can learn about history and see rare beautiful objects and locations. There are so many other places I would love to visit, I’d like to go to Paris and Ireland again too. But I’ve never been to England, so I’d definitely be excited to explore it.

(30 Day Challenge) Day 12: Bullet Your Whole Day:
I was really tired yesterday so I slept almost 12 hours, woke up a little later than usual but it was nice. I dreamed about dogs I think.
I got ready then took my car to the dealership to get fixed (some one side-swiped my car and knocked my mirror off :( sad day)
My mom picked me up there, and we went to San Francisco so we could show her Basque exchange students some sights.
We went to the Castro where I saw this amazing florist! Also I saw an old naked man which kind of sucked, but it’s the Castro so you get what you expect.
Next we had a fancy lunch near union square.
Then we went Chinatown and I bought a lot of wonderful tea at Red Blossom Tea, which has been my favorite tea place for years. I got a sampler of rising blossom teas, also Supreme Dragon Pearl Jasmine, and Tung Ting Charcoal Oolong.
We stopped at a wine bar, then my mom drove home.
I waited for my husband to get home, made shrimp pasta, and now we’re watching Drop Dead Fred.

(30 Day Challenge ) Day 09: Your First Love
haha that picture! We were such young little baby goths! This was at our highschool prom. We are mostly on good terms these days, although it’s not always been easy. We were together for 4 years, although we didn’t speak for about 3 afterwards.
Later, he once told me that him and I and his brothers, all of us from that time, were like war buddies. He said we all shared something that will bond us together forever, and whether we see each other often or not and even if we are not getting along we will always be connected. He said this will never change even if we wanted it to. I think he’s right, but who knows what will happen in the end.

(30 Day Challenge) Day 08: A Moment You Felt The Most Satisfied with Your Life
There is hardly just one, sometimes I’ll just be at home with my husband or by myself running errands and I’ll get this feeling that I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be. It’s a nice feeling.
But a distinct time that stands out is the day I got married. Even though it wasn’t literally the case, I looked around at the faces of of all the people as I walked down the isle and felt as though every single person I’d ever known was there. It was so overwelming, I had to look away, look at the ground, because if I kept seeing all their faces I knew that I’d cry.
And later, our first dance. My husband is such a terrible dancer, and I was having a hard time with my dress, all we could do was slowly rotate there. But our song was playing and we just sang it to each other, all the way through, and laughed.

(30 Day Challenge) Day 07: Your Zodiac Sign and if You Think it Fits Your Personality
"Cancer II people are not always what they seem to be. Whether they present a ‘normal’ image or not, one can be fairly sure that an unusual, even bizarre, fantasy life lurks just below the surface. This may be because those born during this period are in touch with their unconscious.
They enjoy observing, discussing and perhaps chronicling both human behaviour and wondrous aspects of nature and art. When doing these tasks they often express themselves through humor.
[Some] carefree and unconcerned Cancer II’s can really get out there in their imaginative displays. Charismatic, they have a way of touching those hidden areas in people that few acknowedge and ever fewer care to explore, getting in tune with their deeper sensitivities.”
I definitely identify with that description, as well as with the greater description of Cancers:
"Sun in Cancer natives have a strong survival instinct. They are protective of those they care about, and of themselves too. They are often quite reticent about sharing their inner selves to the rest of the world, and are often caught up in reminisce.
Cancers have a reputation for moodiness, although this trait is most evident when the Moon is in Cancer. Cancer needs roots. They resist change to an extent, and concern themselves about being secure and safe in most everything they do.
Cancers can be quite intrigued by objects with history attached to them — antiques, photos, souvenirs, and the like. “

(30 Day Challenge) Day 06: Write 30 Interesting Facts About Yourself
I don’t think I’ll be able to come up with 30, but I’ll see how far I get!
1. My husband and I have three bunnies; Luna (aka Lunabutt/Evilest Bun in the World), Tigerlily (aka Tiger/Tigerbutt/Tigerbunny/Fattest Bun in the World), and Lucitania (Luci/Lucibun/Smartest Prettiest Bun in the World). My Tumblr is named after one of my bunnies :) Luna and Luci are Hotots and Tigerlily is some kind of mixed breed, mostly French Lop I think.
2. I have a BA in Philosophy and Religion.
3. I love Star Trek in its many forms, although not so fond of Enterprise or Voyager. My favorite is Deep Space Nine.
4. I also love Murder Mysteries. I love Miss Marple, Poirot, BBC’s Sherlock and the older Sherlock Holmes, Foyle’s War, Jonathan Creek, etc.
5. My parents are very cool, dare I say cooler than most parents; my mom works for the Environmental Protection Agency and when my dad retired he worked for my school system as a computer teacher and also set up their computer networks.
6. Every guy I’ve ever had a serious relationship with has had Alsatian ancestry. This was neither anticipated nor planned, it just keeps happening! Two of them came from families that literally lived in towns 30 minutes apart before emigrating to America. Don’t ask me how I keep finding them.
7. I like to read and watch the news. I also prefer to read non-fiction vs. fiction, sometimes I feel a little left out with my disinterest in works of fiction, although I love when people share their thoughts and favorite quotes from stories they’ve read. I like to read about history, philosophy, ethics, and sociology.
8. I had my dreadlocks for 2 1/2 years, and I loved them! But I just decided to change them one day, so I did. Sometimes I think it’s better to do certain things without agonizing over the decision too much. My dreads had great meaning to me though, and it did take me a while to adjust to my new self image.
9. I live in a Victorian house and it’s gorgeous!
10. One time we discovered a secret space in the house.
11. I enjoy shooting guns (especially rifles) and do so as a hobby.
12. I’ve known my best friend my entire life, we were born in houses next door to each other. Sometimes we hadn’t spent time together for many years, but we always end up back together. We’re more like family than friends with the way we know so much of each others’ pasts and communicate intuitively.
13. I’m having a really hard time thinking up interesting facts about myself, and doubting whether most of the ones I’ve written so far are actually interesting haha
14. I really love seeing so many beautiful, talented, sincere, and interesting people on Tumblr. When I remind myself that you are all real and not just images, it makes me realize how many cool people are in the world who share my interests. That’s not really an interesting fact about myself but I can’t think of anything else, good night!

(30 Day Challenge) Day 04: Your Views on Religion
I’ve decided to make each one of these days a photo post as well to make things a little more challenging and fun.
I don’t identify as a Religious person, although I do consider myself spiritual. That’s rather a common thing for people to say, so I’ll explain what it means to me: I believe that the greatest source for moral information must necessarily come from human experience, and scripture is not something I choose to consult. Nor do I believe it is reasonable that it be considered on it’s face as a source for social, legal, or political policy. That said, I believe that religion has a permanent place in human experience and in society at large. I think it allows people who would otherwise not be able to experience the abstract and sublime to do so. And while I don’t always agree with peoples’ need to push their views on others, I understand that it often represents their faith in a greater good, even if it is misguided. I won’t stop objecting to it, but I also don’t necessarily wish that it dies out completely. Ideally, we’d all learn to be quietly reverent beings but until then, I’ll try to remember peoples’ best impulses (even as they drive me insane). The fact that people get vitriolic just represents their sincerity.
I also believe in the power of energies and emotions influencing the world around us. I would say that I generally believe in the supernatural but I don’t consider it “out of” nature as the name implies. I think that anything that happens is ultimately natural, we may just not always understand how and why it happens.
